About KLE Society
The Society currently manages over 317 educational institutions, including schools, pre-university colleges, degree colleges, professional institutions, technical institutes, research centres, and business schools. These institutions are spread across almost all districts of Karnataka, parts of Maharashtra, and New Delhi, offering educational opportunities from kindergarten to post-doctoral programmes.
KLE Society caters to the academic needs of more than 1,48,000 students through a multidisciplinary range of programmes in Arts, Science, Commerce, Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Engineering, Law, Management, and other professional disciplines. The Society is supported by a dedicated workforce of over 18,000 employees, comprising teaching, administrative, and support staff.
The governance of the Society is based on democratic principles and is vested in a Board consisting of the President, Chairman, and fourteen elected members. Through visionary leadership, transparent administration, and a strong commitment to academic excellence, the Society has consistently strengthened its educational network and institutional quality.
The establishment of KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research (KAHER), Belagavi, a deemed-to-be university, reflects the Society’s commitment to excellence in higher education, research, innovation, and healthcare. KLE Society continues to uphold its mission of providing accessible, inclusive, and quality education while contributing to nation-building through academic excellence, research, and community engagement.

About KAHER
The acute shortage of quality healthcare facilities in North Karnataka inspired KLE Society to establish Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Belagavi, in 1963. Since its inception, the institution has stood as a symbol of KLE Society’s commitment to excellence in medical education, healthcare, and research.
The strong academic foundation of the college was laid under the visionary leadership of its Founder Dean, Late Dr. B. S. Jirge. During its formative years, the institution was further strengthened by the leadership of Late Dr. B. S. Desai and Dr. M. Basavaraj Urs, who served as Principals and contributed significantly to its academic development.
A major milestone in the institution’s growth came under the leadership of Dr. S. G. Desai (1971–1985), whose tenure was marked by academic excellence, discipline, and the establishment of high professional standards. Subsequently, Dr. H. B. Rajshekhar (1985 onwards) spearheaded remarkable expansion in infrastructure and learning resources. His tenure witnessed the development of KLE Hospital and Medical Research Centre, the Department of Medical Education, a Digital Library, international collaboration with the University of Illinois, USA, and significant enhancements in student welfare and support services.
The visionary leadership of Dr. Prabhakar Kore, Chairman of KLE Society since 1985, transformed the institution’s trajectory. His foresight and commitment to excellence led to the establishment of a Deemed-to-be University, creating new opportunities for higher education, research, innovation, and global collaborations.
Recognizing its outstanding contribution to higher education, the KLE Academy of Higher Education & Research (KAHER) was granted Deemed-to-be University status on 13 April 2006 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, on the recommendation of the University Grants Commission (UGC). Since then, KAHER has evolved into a multidisciplinary health sciences university committed to academic excellence, cutting-edge research, quality healthcare, and societal service.

The Karnataka Lingayat Education (KLE) Society, the sponsoring society of KAHER has a rich history of imparting quality education in this Northern part of Karnataka, and Southern part of Maharashtra.
Our cutting-edge new bachelor of physiotherapy programme has been meticulously designed to reflect physiotherapy in the twenty-first century, and it is adaptable and future-proof to meet the changing needs of health and social care, as well as the profession globally.
